Review

I was first introduced to Amanda Hocking work in her  Trylle series , so u was excited to see read Wake. I wasn't disappointed.
Amanda  takes a creature we all know and twists them to make them dangerous, more so than normal and I loved every bit of it.

Wake is the story of two sisters: Gemma and Harper. Gemma passion and love is swimming and being in the water.
Harper on the other hand is the older protective sister and has resumed the role of mum. After a car accident leaves their mum unable to function in a normal bases.
While  going for a late night swim Gemma comes across Penn, Lexi, and Thea.  These three beautiful strangers will change Gemma’s life forever. It doesn't matter that she has a loving family or a new boyfriend, The events of that night has  changed her and unfortunately her only options just may break her familys heart.

Told in the duel perspectives,  of the two sisters  we are able to get a inside into both of their heads and see how different their lives actually are. We also get to see tbe events from both sides

Alex, is the boy next door who starts as Harper best friend and ends up as Gemma's boyfriend. Then we have Daniel and Harper. Their relationship starts off completely different than Alex and Gemma's. It's slow, and clumsy, and yet somehow perfect.

Once you start getting into the story of Wake, it really picks up. You start to fall in love with all the characters. You wonder what dangers could possibly be lying around the corner. I can't wait to start Lullaby.

The queen of the tearling by Erika Johansen

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Thursday, August 14, 2014 0 comments

Kelsea Glynn is the sole heir to the throne of Tearling but has been raised in secret by foster parents after her mother - Queen Elyssa, as vain as she was stupid - was murdered for ruining her kingdom. For 18 years, the Tearling has been ruled by Kelsea's uncle in the role of Regent however he is but the debauched puppet of the Red Queen, the sorceress-tyrant of neighbouring realm of Mortmesme. On Kelsea's 19th birthday, the tattered remnants of her mother's guard - each pledged to defend the queen to the death - arrive to bring this most un-regal young woman out of hiding...

And so begins her journey back to her kingdom's heart, to claim the throne, earn the loyalty of her people, overturn her mother's legacy and redeem the Tearling from the forces of corruption and dark magic that are threatening to destroy it. But Kelsea's story is not just about her learning the true nature of her inheritance - it's about a heroine who must learn to acknowledge and live with the realities of coming of age in all its insecurities and attractions, alongside the ethical dilemmas of ruling justly and fairly while simply trying to stay alive

Review

So i have just finished The Queen of the Tearling  and i can honestly say i was left a little melon collie. I honestly wanted to love this book more than i did.

Our heroine is a very strong and not afraid to stand up and change the world around her. She is thrown back into a world that she doesn't know or truly understand.  Surrounded by people who she doesn't know if she can trust or not. With the hope to learn more about  her heritage, She must put that on the back burner to restore her kingdom

I liked the plot, but the climax was a little lackluster. I felt that the storyline barely took off. I did like the Queen and her guards, but also wanted more interpersonal relationship. I would have liked an element of romance or more of a true connection in this book, but it was more of a set-up novel. It kind of felt like a prequel.

The story mostly follows Kelsea's POV, but there are intermingled with some side characters. One of which is from the antagonist, the Red Queen of Mortmesne.

The setting descriptions felt vague. I couldn't describe really any particular place. Also, the timeframe for this novel is a bit weird,I could really place it.

I did love the randomness of some of the sentence and swear words. At times you will suddenly read a swear or my favorite was the random line about the Regent and one of his women.

This is definitely one to add to to reading list this year. I am interested to see where this story will go.

Synopsis

The highly anticipated finale to the #1 New York Timesbestselling trilogy that began with A Discovery of Witches

After traveling through time in Shadow of Night, the second book in Deborah Harkness’s enchanting series, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont return to the present to face new crises and old enemies. At Matthew’s ancestral home at Sept-Tours, they reunite with the cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches—with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and its missing pages takes on even more urgency. In the trilogy’s final volume, Harkness deepens her themes of power and passion, family and caring, past deeds and their present consequences. In ancestral homes and university laboratories, using ancient knowledge and modern science, from the hills of the Auvergne to the palaces of Venice and beyond, the couple at last learn what the witches discovered so many centuries ago.

With more than one million copies sold in the United States and appearing in thirty-eight foreign editions, A Discovery of Witches andShadow of Night have landed on all of the major bestseller lists and garnered rave reviews from countless publications. Eagerly awaited by Harkness’s legion of fans, The Book of Life brings this superbly written series to a deeply satisfying close.

Review

"It begins with A Discovery of Witches..."

Between the covers lies the final chapter of the All Souls Trilogy, where we find Diana and Matthew still on their search for the elusive Book of Life.

This is the third and final installment of the 'All Souls Trilogy' by Deborah Harkness.  I love the Discovery of Witches' and 'Shadow of Night' and I could not wait to see were the series would go.

Diana and Matthew return to the present day after their sojourn to 15th century Europe in search of 'The Book of Life.' Their return , while desired, is bittersweet. The present day did not stop and they are greeted with news of death, and the challenges the 'Knights of Lazarus' faced from The Congregation in their absence.

All The de Clermonts (and Bishops) are back in present time, together with their never-ending web of secrets and intrigues. Now mated and preparing for a family, Matthew is desperate to keep his beloved Diana safe and happy. But when all Matthew's past deeds and mistakes come to haunt him,

"But you have become as vital to me as breath and blood. My heart no longer knows where I end and you begin. I knew that you were a powerful witch from the moment I saw you, but how could I have imagined that you would have so much power over me?" - Matthew de Clermont

I absolutely love romantic aspect of this story. Matthew's and Diana's love for each other warmed my heart and brought a smile to my face through out the whole book. I'm definitely going to miss them.

The Book of Life is a story about finding peace and absolution, about accepting who you are and the things about yourself that you can not chang. The detail that Deborah used to describe characters and their thinking is mind-blowing and truly exceptional. It made all characters come alive and it is probably the main reason which make this trilogy so special in my eyes.

If you enjoyed 'Discovery of Witches' and the 'Shadow of night' I do not hesitate to guarantee you that you will adore this book. To those on the fence or those that questioned 'A Discovery of Witches,' please take the time and give this series a chance  I think you will find was worth your time.
