Traditional book verses ebook

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Wednesday, February 27, 2013 0 comments

I have to admit I am traditionalist when it Comes to book. For me there is nothing more then browsing the book shelfs for the perfect book to jump out at you and screen read me. The sound of the spine cracking when you open the book for the first time and the smell of the  printed paper.

These are all things that a ebook just can not compete with .

Don't get me wrong ebooks do have some impressive features. The fact that you carry your entire library with you everywhere you go, is the dream of many book lovers. But you do have to be mindful of the fact that your batterie does need to be charged.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you are a traditionalist or futurist as long as you are reading  and supporting the truley amazing authors in this world that is all that really matters .

The key is to find the way that you are most confitable with reading.

So are you a paper lover or a electric lover??????

The story
In Level 2, the liminal place between our world (Level 1) and heaven, Seventeen-year-old Felicia Ward spends her days in her pod reliving her favorite memories - until she gets broken out by Julian, a boy she knew when she was still alive. There’s about to be an uprising in Level Two, and Julian wants to recruit her to the cause. But unsure whether she can trust Julian, and still in love with her boyfriend Neil on Earth, she finds herself torn between two loves—and two worlds.

Review
Lenore Appelhans is a blogger turned novel writer. Her debut novel Level 2 is getting the world blogging.

When I chose to read level 2 it was with a completely open mind. I had read the blurb and thought that this would be an interesting read.

Level 2 doesn’t fit into just any category/genre it combines the best parts of  Sci-fi, Dystopian, Afterlife, Contemporary and Paranormal. Creating overall one truly indulgent and unique story

Using the idea of your life passing before your eyes when you die, the Level 2 tells the story of Felicia and the life that she must come to terms with is over so that she can move onto Level 3. I must admit I really like the idea of when you die that you get to see your life play back like your watching a movie
The twist at the end of the book will leave you wanting more
The ending did feel a little rushed Overall Level 2 was a great debut. Lenore’s writing is full of feeling and exciting to read. I will be looking forward to reading what she has in store for us next in Level 3.

When we wake by Karen healey

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Friday, February 08, 2013 0 comments

Story

My name is Tegan Oglietti, and on the last day of my first lifetime, I was so, so happy. Sixteen-year-old Tegan is just like every other girl living in 2027–she’s happiest when playing the guitar, she’s falling in love for the first time, and she’s joining her friends to protest the wrongs of the world: environmental collapse, social discrimination, and political injustice.

But on what should have been the best day of Tegan’s life, she dies–and wakes up a hundred years in the future, locked in a government facility with no idea what happened.
Tegan is the first government guinea pig to be cryonically frozen and successfully revived, which makes her an instant celebrity–even though all she wants to do is try to rebuild some semblance of a normal life. But the future isn’t all she hoped it would be, and when appalling secrets come to light, Tegan must make a choice: Does she keep her head down and survive, or fight for a better future?

Review

When I started to read ' When we wake' I honestly wasn't to saw what to expect . Which was great as I didn't have any preconceived ideas of what the story was about. However By the end of the book I found my self wondering what would I do if that was me?
The story follows Tegan a 16 year guitar playing Beatles love girl who after a tragic event wakes up 100 years later.  Everyone she ever new is dead and now she is government property.
As she struggles to deal with the  world she has awaken in, the truth  as to why they brought her back is slowly being revealed. When the lies unravel the question is who will be left standing .
There were a. Lot of great elements to this story. The characters were well thought out and the over plot was unlike anything else  I have read. It really got me thinking about the world we live in and how the choices we can effect the onces we love and the world around us.
I found it a interesting choice to make the friends and loves of her past life have the same characteristics of the friends and loves of her future life
Set in Australia the story also use Australia's humble begins as a base for our story , which I thought was a great  way to inject a little history into a story. Who knows it may even leave u wanting to learn more.

All in all this was a very intreging story and one that will not only get you thinking but also get you talking

Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Saturday, February 02, 2013 0 comments

                  Synopsis

In a city of daimons, rigid class lines separate the powerful from the power-hungry. And at the heart of The City is the Carnival of Souls, where both murder and pleasure are offered up for sale. Once in a generation, the carnival hosts a deadly competition that allows every daimon a chance to join the ruling elite. Without the competition, Aya and Kaleb would both face bleak futures--if for different reasons. For each of them, fighting to the death is the only way to try to live.

All Mallory knows of The City is that her father--and every other witch there--fled it for a life in exile in the human world. Instead of a typical teenage life full of friends and maybe even a little romance, Mallory scans quiet streets for threats, hides herself away, and trains to be lethal. She knows it's only a matter of time until a daimon finds her and her father, so she readies herself for the inevitable. While Mallory possesses little knowledge of The City, every inhabitant of The City knows of her. There are plans for Mallory, and soon she, too, will be drawn into the decadence and danger that is the Carnival of Souls.

From Melissa Marr, bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely series and Graveminder, comes a brand-new tale of lush secrets, dark love, and the struggle to forge one's own destiny

                                                Review

The Carnival of Souls, is a magic filled tale of daimons and witches, and their hatred of each other. Told from the point of view of 3  character  Mallory, Kaleb and Aya.

Mallory is a Seventeen year old girl who just wishes her life was normal, that she did not have to move from town to town all the time. That she could stay in one town long enough to make some real friends and maybe even a boyfriend .
Her father Adam a witch is on the run. Years ago he  took something from the daimons  and they want it back. Adam has  always told Mallory to be on guard and prepared for a daimon attack.

Kaleb lives worlds apart in the City. H
ired for his skills in “black mask” work, fighting and killing,it is a result of these skills that Kaleb is hired to find Mallory.  But what happens when he finds Mallory he never expected

Aya, is a daimon in The City in the ruling class. But Aya has no plans on being a good daimon girl and doing what she is told. She wants to fight for her rights and change her world or die trying.

Over all i found the story to be well-paced. Though i am not a big fan of storys that chop and change character, i did find this on very easy to follow.
The visual imagery through out this story was very strong, from the fights to the house

Melissa Marr has a real talent for writing dark tales where the lines between good and evil are often blurred and the characters posses a bit of both .

This is the prefect weekend read
