Betrothed by Wanda Wiltshire

Posted by Angel kk at Saturday, February 22, 2014 0 comments

Amy Smith has always known she was different. Severe allergies, fragile health and taunts at school have made life an endurance test for the adopted seventeen year old.

When Amy starts having strange dreams, everything changes. Night after night, she becomes trapped in a shroud of black - a void of silence but for a male voice calling for a girl named ‘Marla’.

One night, the darkness clears, Leif is revealed and Amy discovers that she is the girl he has been searching for.
Immediately the two are swept up in a passionate yet forbidden love. Leif isn’t like the other boys Amy knows. Breathtakingly gorgeous, he speaks with her telepathically … not to mention, he can fly …

Desperate to find a way to be with her, Leif tells Amy of the terrifying threat to his Fae homeland, the danger to the people, and of an unforgivable betrayal to his King. He urges her to seek her true identity…. But Amy is confused... isn't it all just a dream?

'Betrothed' is the beautiful and amazing novel by Wanda Wiltshire.

We are thrown into the world of Amy Smith, not quiet your typical  teen age girl. Amy  is plaged with allergies and  haunted by strange dreams.  Wiltshire has a real talent for capturing emotion and drawing the reader into the story . As soon as it was finished  I was telepathically screaming at the author to FINISH THE NEXT BOOK!

I adored the characters and  Nothing seemed unbelievable – in fact as we speak I’m packing my bags - so I can move to Faera. I was also amazed amd depth of the enchanting imagery . The story is unpredictable, with so many twists and turns.

The thing I love about this book is that while romance is a huge part . it is a story about finding oneself, a story of friendship and belonging.

I can not wait to see what will happen next. This is a book that you have to read

Pieces of me by Amber Kizer

Posted by Angel kk at Thursday, February 20, 2014 0 comments

When high school oddball and introvert Jessica Chai is killed in a car accident, her parents decide that Jessica would have wanted her organs donated to those who so desperately need these gifts of life. But Jessica is angry about dying and being dismembered. Taking the idea of cell memory to the next level, not only do the recipients get pieces of Jessica, but gets pieces of their memories and lives moving forward—she knows what they know and keeps tabs on their growth, recovery, and development. This begins her journey to learn her purpose as she begins to grasp that her ties to these teenagers goes beyond random weirdness. It's through their lives that Jessica learns about herself, as she watches the lives she literally touched continue to interlock

Amber Kizer is not one of those authors who wrote complete books at the age of three and always knew she wanted to be a writer. When she faced a rare chronic pain disorder her freshman year of college, she knew she was going to have to learn to live outside the box. After one writing workshop, she fell in love with telling stores and she’s still going strong. Her characters tend to be opinionated, outspoken, and stubborn—she has no idea where that comes from.

A food lover, she plans trips around menus, wishes cookbooks were scratch and sniff, and loves to make complicated recipes—especially desserts. When she’s not reading from a huge stack, she’s coaxing rose bushes to bloom, watching delightful teen angst on television, or quilting with more joy than skill. She takes her tea black, her custard frozen, and her men witty. She lives in the Seattle area with a menagerie of animals that seems ever changing.

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake

Posted by Angel kk at Sunday, February 16, 2014 0 comments

The Goddess War begins in Antigoddess, the first installment of the new series by acclaimed author ofAnna Dressed in Blood, Kendare Blake.
Old Gods never die…

Or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health.

Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra—an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god.

These days, Cassandra doesn’t involve herself in the business of gods—in fact, she doesn’t even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning.

Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with other of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these anti-gods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caricatures of their former glory. Athena will need every advantage she can get, because immortals don’t just flicker out.

Every one of them dies in their own way. Some choke on feathers. Others become monsters. All of them rage against their last breath.

The Goddess War is about to begin.

For fans of greek mythology, Antigoddess   brings a creative and original depiction of the well loved myth and ledgend with the gods and goddess fighting a new war and having to deal with a society that has forgotten them

When the story begins we are told that  something is extremely wrong with the Greek gods and goddesses. This is learnt  through  Athena and Hermes . This prologue is intriguing which sets the tone for the story . Then we're thrown into the lives of Cassandra and Aidan, students in high school, completely oblivious of any kind of a war brewing. Cassandra a regular teenage girl who is psychic, Aidan just wants to be a normal teenager but he has a secret that could cost him the thing he loves most Cassandra.

The story bounces from cassandra and Aidan perspective to  Athena and Herme's which is where how we lesrn what is going on on both sides of this story. From the war to what cassandra and Aidan have to do with the gods and goddess.
Both sides are weaved together well and you don't feel like you have to go back and forth to follow the story.

Kendare does not let us down when it comes to the ending. Which will surprise you.

I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Straight Laced

Posted by Angel kk at Friday, February 14, 2014 0 comments

Summer Jones seems to be perfect in every way. She’s always gotten good grades, graduated with honors and has never missed a curfew. So when Nate Thompson walks into Summer’s life, her whole world is turned upside down.

She envy’s everything he stands for; he’s wild, free and doesn’t have a care in the world. Not to mention he’s hot, has tattoos and drives a motorcycle. When Nate brings to her attention she’s too straight laced for him, she decides it’s time for a change.

She’s ready to start living the life she’s always wanted, but she’s scared to leave everything she knows behind and travel the journey alone. Will Nate be there to encourage her along the way? Or will the rebellion wear off and have her crawling back to her parents?

Nate’s always lived his life in the fast lane. He’s never wanted to be tied down and he doesn’t let anything get in the way of doing what he loves. That is until he meets Summer.

She’s everything he’s ever wanted but yet she’s everything he could never have. She’s smart, beautiful and on her way to the top. She’s way out of he’s league and he lets her know it, but yet he can’t seem to keep his mind off of her.

When Nate finds himself lying on the side of the road in the middle of the night, preparing himself for his last breath there is only one person that comes to mind, Summer Jones. He promises himself that if he makes it through this, he will do everything he can to win her over, but is it too late?

Jessica Gunhammer recently married her high school sweetheart and they’re lucky to call Hawaii home. She graduated college in May 2012 with a degree in fashion design and quickly realized it was not the right fit for her. Reading has always been a passion of hers. However, she put this passion on the back burner, since she had no time to read during college. Soon after, Jessica and her mom started a publishing company. It was while working in the publishing industry that she rediscovered her love for writing. She’d always known she wanted to write, but never considered making a career out of it. After some feedback and support from her amazing family she decided to pursue her dreams of becoming an author.

When Jessica has time between reading, writing and running a business, you can find her enjoying all Hawaii has to offer. She likes to spend her time with her husband, family and dog Asia. On the weekends you can find them teeing off at the nearest golf course, playing volleyball on the beach or visiting the local farmer’s market.

The secrets of the heavens had always been carefully guarded. Until one day when the angels realized that what they used to believe in was nothing but a cruel game between heaven and hell.

And Claire's life is a part of that game too. She is a guardian angel.

She always thought that her existence was perfect. But perfection is a very relative term, and no one is protected from making mistakes.

Everything changes the moment Claire gets a new assignment. Guarding humans has never been easy, and this time won't be an exception.

Alan Rosenford is a spoilt party-boy, whose life is a hurricane of risk and adrenaline rush. His soul is damaged, his heart is bleeding, and there are so many things he prefers to keep private….

The words they have never said before …

The sins they have never committed….

How much does forgiveness of the heavens cost?

Or maybe even the heavens make mistakes?....

Isabelle Clark always had ideas, but that's all they ever were . . . until now. She grew up in a world filled with poverty and hatred from the person who gave birth to her and had decided she would finally make her ideas a reality. After moving away to college as a junior she ran into the University of Maryland's walking one-night stand. Literally. Ryder Mitchell was every girl's wet dream all in one muscled, tattooed, pierced, baseball playing package. He thought he had the life: going to school, tattooing people by day, and giving girls the best orgasms of their life by night. When he found out that Financial Aid didn't fully cover Isabelle's room and board Ryder had an idea: Isabelle should move in with him. On the outside everybody sees Isabelle as a quiet bookworm and Ryder as a player, both on and off the baseball diamond. They soon learn who the other truly is. Either way, they're about to realize this idea was a beautiful one...

Death of a Saint by Lily Herne

Posted by Angel kk at Monday, February 03, 2014 0 comments

Secrets. Everyone has them. But what if your secret is something so unthinkable that

can’t even admit it to yourself? Lily Herne returns with Death of a Saint , the next instalment in the Mall Rats series.

Exiled from the city enclave for crimes against the Resurrectionist State, teen rebels Lele, Ginger, Ash and Saint — aka the Mall Rats — are hiding out in the Deadlands, a once-prosperous area now swarming with the living dead. With the sinister Guardians breathing down their necks, the Mall Rats face a stark choice: return to the enclave and try to evade capture or leave Cape Town in search of other survivors. But what if the rest of South Africa is nothing but a zombie-infested wasteland? Will they be able to survive on the road if all they have is each other, or will their secrets tear them apart?

After all, only Lele knows the shocking truth as to why the dead leave the Mall Rats unscathed — knowledge that she can’t bring herself to share. And she’s not the only Mall Rat harbouring a dangerous secret

Death of a Saint is the second in the Mall Rats horror series by South African author Lily Herne.

Death of a Saint picks up where Deadlands left off. The Mall Rats make the decision to travel outside of Cape Town to find other survivors. Along the way picking up some new friends and a old friend, including a pretty redhead Ember, a cute hyena named Bambi, and the mysterious Lucien, who reveals a secret Ash was hoping to keep hidden.

The road is a bumpy, the journey unsafe, but perhaps the most dangerous aspect that comes into play is that, for all the team's united front, the secrets they keep from one another may be the biggest threat of all.

Like any teenage they are struggling to find there emotions and to find there place in a world that is a nightmare

Though there were moment I enjoyed in this story. I find my self at times struggling to get into this story.
