Synopsis
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
Review
While looking through the shelf at my local book shop for something to read, a staff member recommend that I should read Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas.
I have picked up this book a few times to buy and read but for some reason I always put it down. Now I wonder why I hadn't brought it earlier. The moment I started Throne of Glass, I was already sure that it's going to be just an good read.
Celaena Sardothien is an assassin trained by the King of the Assassins. When we first meet here she is serving hard time in the salt mine. After a year, she is offered a way out. All she has to do is beat out 23 other candidates in a competition to be the King’s Champion.
Celaena is the kind of character that knows what she wants and who she is. Strongwilled and determined Celaena will do what she must to survive. One thing i loved was though she is quiet a strong powerfull characters there is still a slight girlie side that you see once or twice, which makes her a little more relatable. As we learn more about her and her past you can understand how she turned out to be such a strong girl despite her awful past.
There are 2 leading men in the story ( though they do take a back seat to Celaena).
Dorian Havilliard. It is as prince Dorian champion that Celaena return s to the kingdom. But from the moment Dorian meets Celaena there is something about here that seems to draw him in, making him want to get to know her to protect. Unlike a lot of princes, dukes, and royal characters in story there is something relatable and somewhat real about him.
The plot overal is really good! With all the twists and turns, you are pulled in and you will not want to put the book down.
I loved this book. From it twists and turn, romance and it's killer fight. Not to mention it's killer leading lady.
If you’re a lover of Fantasy, Throne of Glass is definitely a series that you should add to your to-read list.
