Lorali by Laura Dockrill

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Friday, July 24, 2015 0 comments

Synopsis

Colourful, raw, brave, rich and fantastical - this mermaid tale is not for the faint-hearted.

Looking after a naked girl he found washed up under Hastings pier isn't exactly how Rory had imagined spending his sixteenth birthday. But more surprising than finding her in the first place is discovering where she has come from.

Lorali is running not just from the sea, not just from her position as princess, but her entire destiny. Lorali has rejected life as a mermaid, and become human.

But along with Lorali's arrival, and the freak weather suddenly battering the coast, more strange visitors begin appearing in Rory's bemused Sussex town. With beautifully coiffed hair, sharp-collared shirts and a pirate ship shaped like a Tudor house, the Abelgare boys are a mystery all of their own. What are they really up to? Can Rory protect Lorali? And who from? And where does she really belong, anyway?

Review

I received Lorali by Laura Dockrill from The Five Mile Press (Hot Key Books) in exchanged for an honest review. This has in no way influenced my thoughts on the book.

As soon as I read the synopsis for Lorali, I knew that this was a book that was going to be on my to read.
Lorali is a  fun, exciting read, that had me turning page after page.

Lets start with the beautiful cover. This is  a simple cover with a twist it has scales that you can feel .

Normally I am not a fan of books that are told from different POV, but in this case I found it easy to follow and that it added a depth to the story.
Rory the male lead and Lorali the mermaid and ‘The Sea.’

Lorali’s point of view in particular is  interesting, as all her sentences are short and at times a little unclear. It reminds me of a toddler when the are first learning to put sentences together.

‘The Sea’ followed a different people and it also gave the reader some back story on the events and people that were brought up through the book.

I also liked the fact that Laura Dockrill  added a modern element to 5he stiry by adding article s from  newspaper/internet and other forms of media pieces in the book. Which helpped to join elements of the story.

There are not only mermaids in the story but pirates as well.
There is a group of guys who one would consider borderline  pirates live on a ship called Liberty.  With what you learn about them in the story you could see a spin off story with just them.

I loved the plot, the characters and all the twists and turns. There is so much more that I could go on about, but I won’t spoil it for you.

This is the perfect book to curl up with on the weekend.  If you TV looking for a mermaid story check out Lorali by Laura Dockrill.

From blogger to author part 1

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Wednesday, July 22, 2015 0 comments

After years of reading amazing books by inspiring author's from around the world, I decided that I wanted to try my hand at writing.

This started as something fun for me to do at the end of a long day at work to relax. But after I showed a few friends the start of what I had written, they encourage me to keep writing my story.

Over the past few years I have been quietly writing my first novel. Now I have made the decision to submit my book.

There was of course a few little things I had to do first.

♡ Come up with a title
♡ Write a synopsis
♡ Look at my  publisher options

There are some amazing publisher out there to choose from. However as I do not have a agent , I am going to be submitting my book as a unsolicited manuscript.  This does limit my opinion.  So after much consideration I have decided to submit my book to Allen and Unwin Friday pitch.

So I decided that I'm going to  document and share my journey as I try to make to jump from a blogger to a published author.  In the hopes that I can not only share what the journey is like,  highs  and lows. But perhaps inspire others to give it a go.

Fingers crossed. I will let you know how I go

 Review

Fearless is the final book in the Avena Series by Marianne Curley.

In Fearless  we see Ebony kidnapped  from Earth and taken to hell. With her world turned upsidedown she now must now deal with the possibility that she may never see the ones she loves again .
Jordan struggles with the guilt over his role in Ebonys kidnapping and is willing to sacrifice everything to make it up to the ones he loves. But by far the biggest betrayal will come from someone they never expected.

There are aspects of Fearless that remind me of Hades by Alexandra Adornetto. Angel taken to hell and must fight to not only keep her wits but for her survival. However unlike in Hades I found that the flow of Fearless was more consistent and k ept you engaged.

I found the underlining message in  Fearless to be a simple one Love. Love is what seems to keep the characters together and keep their world turning. Whether it is Nathaneal fighting to bring Ebony home or the love that courses a mother to sacrifice herself  for her child.

Fearless is the perfect conclusion to this beautiful series.
If you are looking to start to read YA fiction or looking for your first step into paranormal fiction then this is the perfect series for you.

Crown of midnight by Sarah J Maas’s

Posted by Paranormalangelblog at Friday, July 03, 2015 0 comments

Synopsis

"A line that should never be crossed is about to be breached.

It puts this entire castle in jeopardy—and the life of your friend."

From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.

Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.

Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

Review

Crown Of Midnight is the second killer book in Sarah j Maas’s YA fantasy series- Throne Of Glass.

Crown of midnight starts were Throne of Glass left of. At just 18 Celaena Sardothien has beaten the odds and is now the king's champion. Though  she is far from loyal to the crown.

Celaena knew that being the king's champion would be hard and would test her resolve . So  when the King commands her to perform a series of executions against those who he suspects are thought to be traitors to the crown, she finds herself  having to make a choice.

There are dark forces  gathering, and threatening all those she holds dear. She will have to face a much darker path .

Nehemia who was such a great support for Celaena in the first book, is still very presentin this. Though we learn more about her agenda. The princess is one of those selfless characters that would give everything up for the sake of her people and the ones she loves. She is what really sets everything in to motion in  this sequel. But in a  shocking way  that will leave you with stunned.

Another surprise is the amount of secrets thats everyone including Celaena.

There is so much I could tell you about this book, but I run the risk of giving to much away. So I will leave you with
There will be lies
There will be secret
There will be love
There will be betrayal
